gov) Position Description Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques.
Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects.
Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties for a Transportation Engineering Specialist I, II, or III: Assists in writing general notes, specifications and provisions.
Attends specialized design schools.
Learns specialized design and project development techniques.
Performs advanced and specialized design work.
Prepares environmental documents.
Prepares field notes.
Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.
Additional Duties for a Transportation Engineering Specialist II & III Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.
Performs traffic engineering design work, analyzes traffic and accident data and recommends solutions for traffic Trains less experienced technicians.
Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design.
Additional Duties for a Transportation Engineering Specialist III: Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.
May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings.
Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience for a Transportation Engineering Specialist I: 6 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation.
Experience for a Transportation Engineering Specialist II: 7 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation.
Experience for a Transportation Engineering Specialist III: 8 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation.
(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).
Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license.
This position requires driving a state vehicle.
